ITIL 4 and Cloud: The service configuration management practice

04.08.2020 | SymphonyAI team

Service configuration management is one of the 34 ITIL 4 management practices that’s still considered difficult despite being around for decades. The cloud delivery model both helps and hinders this practice, depending on how good you are at the cloud. Leading cloud services providers actively build configuration management services to help make it easier for customers because, if the native configuration management capabilities are poor, then people perhaps won’t use the cloud.

This “service configuration management in the cloud” blog is part of a series that looks at a number of the ITIL 4 management practices and how they are best applied in the cloud (in terms of both service delivery and support).

First, I’ll recap the service configuration management practice and then explain how it applies to the cloud before recommending additional configuration management activities for organizations that currently, or plan to, use the cloud that will improve the quality of their IT service delivery and support, and the resulting business outcomes.
